LIMINAL SPACE

WHAT IS LIMINAL SPACE?

A liminal space is often a transitional space; a place you pass through on your way to another place; the in-between. Sometimes they aren't transitional, but empty. Empty as in a lack of activity where activity is normally present. For example, the hallways of a school after hours; it's empty and strange, almost like you should not be there. Or that empty room you stumbled upon while looking for something at work. In some of these spaces reality can seem distorted or even dreamlike. But what most liminal spaces have in common is a pocket of stillness that evokes feelings of unease to those in its presence.
